Everything You Need To Know About Tesla Maintenance, Service & Costs

By Ali Naqvi

This article is to give you a detailed overview of Tesla maintenance, service, warranty, and costs of ownership. According to Tesla's website, the cabin air filter is the first item you'll need to repair. This filter prevents pollen, industrial fallout, road dust, and other particles from entering through the vents. This should be updated every 2 years for the Model 3 and Model Y, and every 3 years for the Model S and Model X. If your Tesla already has a HEPA filter installed, Tesla suggests upgrading it every three years.

Then, a tyre rotation and wheel alignment are performed. Tesla suggests changing your tyres every 6,250 miles or when the tread depth difference is larger than 2/32 inches, whichever happens first. Now, let's briefly discuss the Tesla's tyres.

A decent pair of tyres on a conventional gas-powered automobile normally lasts between three to five years or 60,000 miles. But, on a Tesla, the tyres will need to be replaced between 2.5 and 3 years or 30,000 miles sooner.

This is owing to the fact that Tesla's are significantly heavier than gas-powered vehicles due to their battery packs. The additional weight places more strain on the tyres, causing them to wear out faster than the tyres on a regular gas-powered vehicle.

As a benefit of owning a Tesla, however, tyre rotation may be performed by Tesla's mobile service, allowing you to have the service performed at your home or place of business without ever having to be there. Keep tuned, as we'll be discussing mobile service in further detail shortly.

Tesla vehicle does not require regular fluid changes. They suggest testing brake fluid for contaminants every two years and replacing it as necessary. But before we continue, here are additional maintenance recommendations and information.

In a standard gas-powered automobile, the brake pads should be replaced every 15,000 miles, and a full Brake replacement, which includes replacing the pads, rotors, and calipers, as well as labour, costs between $300 and $800, or even more than $1,000 for premium brand vehicles.

But if you own a Tesla, your brakes will last significantly longer, and you will be able to drive over 300,000 miles without replacing them. This is due to regenerative braking, which brakes the car using its electric motors instead of the actual brakes, while simultaneously regenerating energy back into the battery to increase driving range.

Other than a brake fluid test, Tesla suggests cleaning and lubricating the calipers every 12 months or 12,500 miles if you reside in a cold environment.

The last item you'll need to maintain is the A/C desiccant bag, which ensures the system's durability and effectiveness. With the Model 3, it must be replaced every six years. 4 Years for Model Y; 3 Years for Models S and X

And that concludes it! There are only 5 basic things to maintain on a Tesla, and as an added benefit, the Tesla App will remind you when each suggested maintenance for tesla should be performed.
