Audi E-Tron GT

Audi E-Tron GT: A Detailed Overview

By Andrew Stephens

The Audi e-Tron is the automaker's first fully electric vehicle. The fast SUV has the interior room and amenities of a high-end car, as well as the practical range needed for daily driving, and its cutting-edge electrical all-wheel drive ushers its driver into a whole new world. A stride into the future that is forward-thinking, inventive, and electrified.

The new RS E-Tron GT, like the Porsche Taycan, has two electric motors: one for the front wheels and another for the back. The Taycan's platform is also used for the Audi e-Tron GT, which was developed in tandem with Porsche. Because of this, it seems like it's equally broad and functional, with a similarly sloping roof. Although it has four doors, its exterior is sleek and evocative.

Handling

Both the standard and RS versions of the E-Tron GT provide a supremely satisfying driving experience. Every E-Tron GT comes standard with a three-chamber air suspension that can be toggled between Comfort and Dynamic settings. The GT maintains an almost ideal combination of sensuous luxury and severe stability, so the transition between modes isn't particularly jarring. The electronic power steering also speeds up in Dynamic mode, although the E-Tron GT still lags behind the Taycan. One of the main differences between these German twins is Porsche's famously responsive and communicative handling.

Standard output is 598 horsepower, with a further 2 seconds of over-boost available at launch. With this setup, the automobile can go from 0 to 62 mph in about 3.0 seconds. The speed range from 30 to 70 miles per hour is particularly useful for passing and accelerating down slip roads. Only 2.7 seconds were needed for the RS E-Tron GT to finish the track.

Even with its massive wheels and rubber bands for tires, the RS e-Tron GT is really relaxing to ride in Comfort mode, and this continues when you switch to Dynamic mode.

The E-Tron GT's responsive handling is a direct result of the integration of performance-enhancing technology like torque vectoring and rear-axle steering. The RS comes standard with these amenities whereas the base E-Tron GT may get them by purchasing an option pack.

You would imagine that the RS e-Tron GT's 2.3-ton weight would make it tough to handle on a winding road, but you'd be wrong. Thanks to its four-wheel steering, four-wheel drive, and rear limited-slip differential, the Audi is nimble when changing lanes. The batteries are kept on the ground, which also helps to decrease the vehicle's center of gravity. Holds firmly.

Typical of electric vehicles, the Audi RS E-Tron GT has a very low profile and a hushed Audi E-Tron GT interior. However, there is a fee involved if you want it to produce a sound. Audi has, in fact, programmed in an odd electrical "whoom" that can be turned on and off during acceleration. You get to judge if the upcharge is justified.

Like the Porsche Taycan, the E-Tron GT doesn't have very effective regenerative braking. You can increase regen by using the paddles on the steering wheel, however, it has no effect on the vehicle's handling.

Interior

When compared to the Taycan, the GT's cabin is much more cluttered because to its many more buttons, knobs, and a weird small circular pad of audio controls located to the right of the cup holders. Even so, the cabin quality is what you'd expect from an Audi, with exquisite fit and finish and a well-balanced feel throughout.

Even though the trunk can fit two average-sized persons, the E-Tron GT is not a hatchback like the Taycan, so be careful of the relatively narrow opening.

Both E-Tron GT variants come equipped with Audi's outstanding digital virtual cockpit instrument cluster. The 10.1-inch infotainment screen runs the company's straightforward MIB3 software and has both wireless Apple Car Play and wired Android Auto. Even while lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control aren't included on the entry-level E-Tron GT, they are part of the comprehensive array of driver-assistance functions that come standard on higher trim levels.

Power Sources and Recharging

The E-Tron GT's 800-volt vehicle architecture allows for 270 kilowatt-per-hour charging speeds, which is enough to get the battery from dead to 80 percent full in just 20 minutes.

Despite having a somewhat lower capacity than the Taycan's 95 kWh battery, the Audi RS E-Tron GT's battery nevertheless gives an official range of 283 miles. Most people won't notice the difference, but a Tesla Model S has a range of 400 miles.

Safety

The RS E-Tron GT's strong road presence and cruising skills are there even in the basic trim, which has all the active safety and convenience features you could desire.
